The Community of Consuelo
A rural community of 70,000 people in the Dominican Republic — and the heart of DMA’s mission.
The Dominican Mission Alliance exists to serve the people of Consuelo — a community of great physical and spiritual need, surrounded by sugar plantations just outside San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. Here is who they are, and how we are called to serve them.
The Consuelo Community
The community of Consuelo consists of 70,000 people, living in a rural area a few miles outside of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. The area historically has had a mix of Dominican and Haitian people. Surrounded by massive sugar plantations, this is an area of great physical and spiritual need.
The effects of generational poverty and lack of access to health care are key problems that DMA is working to address. Of even greater importance is to confront the spiritual darkness present in the form of voodoo and other practices, common to many in the area.
Pastor Julio Jimenez and the pastors of the Christian churches he has planted and mentored work daily to bring the hope and light of Jesus Christ to the people of Consuelo. DMA’s role is to strengthen and speed this ministry in Jesus’ name.

Generational Poverty
Deep cycles of poverty shape daily life in Consuelo, limiting access to resources, opportunity, and stability for families across generations.
Lack of Healthcare Access
Access to adequate health care has historically been limited, leaving many in the community without the medical support they need.
Spiritual Need
Spiritual darkness, including voodoo and related practices, is common in the area. Bringing the light of Jesus Christ to Consuelo is central to DMA’s calling.

Doctor Julio and His Vision
Doctor Julio Jiménez started his first church in 2005 in a tiny tin-roof shack, fulfilling the first part of a much larger vision which has been and still is being built out to the glory of God. So far, five churches, two schools, two daycare facilities, adult vocational training facilities, a bakery, culinary institute, a co-op market, and a water purification plant are in place and operating. Beyond all this, construction is presently underway on “Health & Life Primary Care Clinic” and a full Tier-3 hospital “Health & Life Medical Center.”
The founders of Dominican Mission Alliance have had the honor to observe firsthand this development over the past 15 years and are witnesses to the diligent stewardship of Doctor Julio and his team.

How We Serve
The Dominican Mission Alliance (DMA) serves the community of Consuelo in three interconnected ways — building a broad base of US support, investing resources directly into ongoing projects, and engaging people through transformative short-term missions trips.
Raising Awareness & Donations
DMA raises awareness and donations through a network of diverse partners in the United States. These partners consist of individuals, corporations, churches, and other non-profits working in the Caribbean region. A listing of some of our partners can be found on the About Us page.
Investing in Consuelo Projects
Through the year, DMA allocates financial resources to ongoing projects in Consuelo. Our Board of Directors consults regularly with Doctor Julio and his leadership to help accelerate their progress.
Short-Term Missions Trips
DMA organizes Short-Term Missions Trips, actively engaging people of all ages with a purpose larger than themselves. These trips are wonderful opportunities to connect with the people in the community, and usually end up benefiting those who go to serve as much, or more than, those who are served.
